Overview of role:
Act as the Finance Director of the National Workforce delivering the latest Fibre broadband and TV services to the UK’s consumers and businesses which is the catalyst for top line growth in the Openreach business.
Provides strategic direction and Financial leadership to a senior leadership business team. Instrumental in the formulation and development of business strategy. Integral part of the senior management team. Work across Group and with external customers to ensure BT’s investment in TV rights is maximised through exceptional service delivery from Openreach.
Drive the delivery of our transformation programme and the associated unit financial, commercial and related operational objectives.
Responsible for leading negotiations on agile resourcing contracts to deliver professional, commercial and contractually effective solutions for Openreach’s new product set.
Act as expert advisor to the business on new product innovation and onboarding.
Leads the budgetary and financial control activities of the National workforce to meet the needs of the company, government and statutory bodies. Develops practices within own specialist area that support the company’s broader financial goals. Will be an expert in one (or more) of the following Finance work areas but will have broader leadership responsibilities across several:oPlanning, Budgeting, Pricing, Reporting, Analysis, Appraisal, Regulatory, Finance Systems, Processes, Management Control, Internal Control, Tax, Treasury, Commercial Management, Bids and Tenders, Ventures or lead on key projects.oThe level of interpretation in this role is high. Provides significant input to discussions relating to financial policy and the impact of its implementation. Will direct and co-ordinate the planning and preparation of annual and long-term activities to submit to senior management.
To lead negotiations to deliver commercially effective contracts with strategic outsourced partners and other suppliers.
To drive the commercial propositions around Openreach’s TV services to ensure the return on investment is maximised by defining effective solutions both in cost and pricing structures
To provide strategic financial consultancy to the business and ensure projects/programmes deliver real commercial benefit to the business.
To drive the development of strategic decisions in support of our cost and business transformation strategy.
Develop measurement and tracking processes which demonstrate value, impact and achievement and report/manage scorecardperformance.
Provide the necessary financial governance and reporting, including SARBOX fulfilment, on expenditure/income/proceeds, ensuring integrity of financials
To seek out new financial opportunities in relation to our major TV services to leverage maximum financial advantage and extract and unlock value/flexibility.
Review current resourcing contracts and put forward and execute new propositions to significantly enhance BT’s financial position.
To initiate, develop and maintain good working relationships at senior level both internally and externally.
To lead, develop and coach a team of professionals and managers.
Direct management of X finance managers, indirect management of 30 FTE
Circa £200m of TLC generating >£500m of revenue
Essential Skills & Experience
Significant experience and credibility in a senior finance role with an excellent career track record and a recognised UK accounting qualification.
Track record of maximising return from strategic investments and achieving financial targets whilst ensuring customer service is kept at the forefront of business objectives
Extensive and well developed experience of leading face to face negotiations on complex commercial and service issues.
A strategic thinker with the ability to build strong relationships across LoB boundaries and interact at a commercial as well as financial level.
Sound ability to quickly understand and interpret key business strategies/issues and develop appropriate financial and commercial solutions.
Capability to drive transformation, test/challenge current thinking and implement new approaches, practices and policies.
Multi-skilled financial professional with the ability to operate as part of the leadership team and drive strategic planning and direction setting.
Track record of developing people, building capability and re-engineering processes to meet evolving business needs.
First class analytical skills and ability to articulate well.
Catalyst for change with strong leadership skills in terms of growing/defending the P&L, influencing business decision making and investment decisions and driving the business forward.
